چکیده
The instabilities of thermocapillary liquid layers with two free surfaces are examined by linear stability analysis. surface tension is big enough to keep the non-deformable. effect vertical temperature difference between interfaces (Q) considered. critical parameters preferred modes determined, which depend on Prandtl number (Pr) and Biot (Bi). When Q=0, oblique wave at small Pr streamwise large Pr. perturbation symmetric anti-symmetric Pr, respectively. Q>0, mode changes from wave, finally spanwise stationary increase instability mechanism discussed. Comparisons made layer a single previous results numerical simulations experiments.

Convective Instabilities in Two Liquid Layers
We perform linear stability calculations for horizontal fluid bilayers, taking into account both buoyancy effects and thermocapillary effects in the presence of a vertical temperature gradient. To help understand the mechanisms driving the instability, we have performed both long-wavelength and short-wavelength analyses. The mechanism for the large wavelength instability is complicated, and the...
متن کاملConvective instabilities in two superposed horizontal liquid layers heated laterally.
This work is devoted to the theoretical study of the stability of two superposed horizontal liquid layers bounded by two solid planes and subjected to a horizontal temperature gradient. The liquids are supposed to be immiscible with a nondeformable interface. The forces acting on the system are buoyancy and interfacial tension. Four different flow patterns and temperature profiles are found for...
متن کاملLinear Oscillatory Cellular Thermocapillary Convection in Liquid Layers
A linear stability analysis is performed on a thermal, stratified liquid layer with a deformable thermocapillary surface. The objective is to investigate the possibility and conditions for existence of oscillatory cellular convection in the linear thermocapillary system. In general, the principle of the exchange of stabilities for the onset of cellular convection in liquid layers with deformabl...
متن کاملThermocapillary actuation of liquid flow on chemically patterned surfaces
We have investigated the thermocapillary flow of a Newtonian liquid on hydrophilic microstripes which are lithographically defined on a hydrophobic surface. The speed of the microstreams is studied as a function of the stripe width w, the applied thermal gradient udT/dxu and the liquid volume V deposited on a connecting reservoir pad. Numerical solutions of the flow speed as a function of downs...
متن کاملA Continuation Method Applied to the Study of Thermocapillary Instabilities in Liquid Bridges
A continuation method is applied to investigate the linear stability of the steady, axisymmetric thermocapillary flows in liquid bridges. The method is based upon an appropriate extended system of perturbation equations depending on the nature of transition of the basic flow. The dependence of the critical Reynolds number and corresponding azimuthal wavenumber on serval parameters is presented ...
